help please....t.v. broke 3 months out of guarantee

Hi, can anyone offer any advice?
Bought a £300+ t.v from asda in june 2009, which has just stopped working, for no reason.Can't find the receipt but can get a bank statement showing the payment to asda at that time.
Asda say it's out of guarantee and won't help. but i remember reading about things being expected to last a reasonable amount of time.
Can anyone help me with the law on this, my rights etc and how to go about things.I don't feel its reasonable for an expensive t.v. to break down this soon.
