Hi
I am going to York on Saturday 16th October for my friends birthday and was wondering where's best to stay that is in the centre of the city (or within walking distance) and reasonably priced.
Thanks

I'd suggest the York Central Travelodge which is about five minutes walk from the main shopping street and is over a Wetherspoons for a cheap breakfast, but it's not available that weekend. The one on Micklegate does have availability for your date but Micklegate is where most of the bars and clubs are so may be quite noisy and is not that cheap (£120 for one night).
If you're not desperate to stay in town then it may be worth looking at somewhere like the Black Bull on Hull Road (roughly half an hour's walk from town or £5 in a taxi) or one of the many B&Bs on Fulford Road (about the same distance in the opposite direction)."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
I'm planning a visit to York too - can anyone suggest from experience the best place for late night entertainment or good music venues? Thanks! : )0

Alhambra Court Hotel is really cheap between £30 and £63 a night which is good for the centre of York. I stayed there once and really enjoyed it. Perfect distance to walk from a night out as well.0

Depends what sort of music you want - I'm an indie fan so would always go to gigs at Fibbers and the Duchess when I was at uni. The Duchess also has a pretty good Saturday night club which plays a nice mix of chart, cheese and indie stuff as well."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
Last time I stay at York stopped at the IBIS hotel was about 5 mins walk into town room was clean and tidy (not 5 star but a very nice hotel), also had a lovely Italian just over the road.... food in the hotel was nice but a bit pricey also breakfast wasnt included in room price but there was a Yates and weatherspoons up the road which did full english for approx £5... all in all a very reasonable hotel have also stopped at a B&B at the other side of York which was nice but cant remember the name of it.....:p0

Have a look at the list at http://www.ukhotel.com/yorkshire/york.html
Personally, I often favour Premier Inns but they're invariably not centrally located (although I think that's changing more and more).
I've been to The Grange before (admittedly just for a meeting and a few years ago now) and that was a nice hotel.0 -
I had the same query.

Just back from Royal York hotel next tio train station and next to walls. Worked out at £110 a night for two of us plus breakfast. If you booked online you got a free bottle of champagne.
Had pool, Jacuzzi, steam rooms etc.
Ask for a room overlooking the front of the hotel - the trainstation is at the rear
Worth checking with them to see if have any deals0
