help with Northern Rock mortgage

Options
Dear All,

I have a joint mortgage with my ex, whom has not paid towards the mortgage since September 2009. The payments were missed for 4 months then i took on the full payment even though the house is 400 miles from where i live/rent. My ex also does not live in the property.
After finding it hard to keep up with the mortgage payments along with all my other bills, i stopped paying the mortgage in May.
My ex had spoke to Northern Rock regarding voluntary repossession and i finally received a form from them a couple of weeks ago.
On the form, they want me to put my forwarding address and sign it.
I have read other peoples experiences on this forum so do i not sign the form? Just put my forwarding address, print my name without a signature and enclose my keys before sending it to Northern Rock by recorded delivery.
Also on the form it states that should there be a shortfall in funds after the sale to cover what we borrowed then they can chase us for it.
Thanks alot,
Heresomethingforyou.

  • Hi there, sorry to hear your plight, not sure how helpful my reply will be but I had mortgage with NR and realised I was going to have to go BR. I had mortgage arrears and also there was going to be small amount of negative equity when I eventually sold it.

    I went through a process with them of assisted sale as they called it, but at no time did I let on that I was going to file for personal bankruptcy.

    They were not too bad and eventually (about 5 months, and I paid virtually nothing towards my mortgage during that time either) I sold the house. On the completion day they messed me about a bit and I had to sign a form to say I would agree to pay shortfall etc. They also whacked on the early redemption charge £10k even though technically the mortgage was not fully paid off,

    Anyway that was Dec 2009 and in March this year I eventually filed for BR. My file included all the outstanding amounts to NR. So I guess my advice is befiore you go ahead with voluntary repo; try and get some advice on if that will affect you in an adverse way if you then go BR.

    Hope that makes sense but let me know if ytou want any more info re my situation; but there will be better qualified people on this site than me who I am sure will be able to help;

    Best of luck Charlie

    Fine to sign before BR as when you do go BR the debt gets included. But if otherway round then do not sign.
