Paris by Car

Thinking of driving to France (possibly Paris) in October from Manchester.

Looking for some advise on how/what do to, what to avoid etc.

Anyone done this trip? Would love to hear from you and would appreciate of you could share you experiences.

Looking at half term week and prob looking at 4 - 5 days top.

Thanks

  • We looked into all the different options before we went in August and although not the cheapest............the most convenient for us was to take the short drive to Hull and take the overnight ferry to Zeebrugge from where it is approx. a 2 and a half hour journey to Paris.

I counted the two nights on the ferry as part of our break. There is plenty of entertainment going on and restaurants if required. ( Not cheap though.)
We were staying with some friends though so accomodation wasnt a factor for us.
    Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £60
  • We drove to Disney land paris at Feb 1/2 term from sheffield. Takes 3 hours to dover you then have an hour on ferry, then around 3 hours to paris. It was very easy even with a 5 year old an a 1 year old as the ferry split it up nicely as they both had a sleep to the ferry and from the ferry. It only cost around £50 return on the ferry as well. Driving through France was very easy although I had a european sat nav ad I went round the outskirts of Paris not through the centre. It cost around 25 euro in tolls. Traffic was not that busy at all.

I was amazed how easy it was and would definately do it again.

    Thanks

What would be the best time to leave Manchester? To avoid traffic etc?

And any recommendations of hotels around Paris? Nothing too expensive... i'm a huge Travelodge fan lol
  • If you have TEsco vouchers then consier the Eurotunnel at Folkestone as quicker than the ferry.

I would leave personally during the night and get an early crossing to avoid traffic. Its probably 300 miles or so to Dover from where you are so the 3 hour comment above is probably rather stretched shall we say!

Stop somewhere on French side for Breakfast maybe at Le Touquet or similar. only a 3 hour drive in France

Still a long car trip overall for 4 days however. Have you priced up flying or Eurostar trips?
