HD TV Standard Regulations

Hi,

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I can find what the standard regulations as to what an HDTV should have.

I have recently got SKy HD to find my suppossedly HDTV Ready TV does not have the HDMI slot for the box to be connected up enabling it useless in obtaining Sky HD TV.

From looking on a couple of online techy forums I have found others have complained about the same televison for its lack of HD support but their posts are a few years old and would like to find somewhere official and up to date that can back up our claims.

Thanks In Advance

In the UK, the "standardisation" is covered by the following industry association:

Unfortunately, I think it's very unlikely you have any case to make against the supplier or maker of your TV, as I doubt that there is a stated requirement for specific input or output connectors for an HDTV.

What other input connectors are available on your TV? Some have DVI connectors, for which it's simply a matter of an adaptor plus a separate cable for the audio.

It may have a DVI connector which can be used with Sky+HD, best if you tell us the make and model of your TV, I'm guessing its fairly old.

  • Thanks,

Its a samsung SP43W6HL bought in 2005. It doesn't have a HDMI or DVI input but does have a video component input which we currently have our xbox 360 hooked up to.

Component Video is analogue, HDMI is a digital interface. Converters tend to be expensive. Best plan get a new TV.

I'd just get a component switch box and an hdmi to component lead and be done with it.

It's an old TV made before Sky HD was released and does have an HD input so I don't think you could argue against it being HD Ready.

How would a digital HDMI signal work through analogue component?
