What's the quickest turnaround you've had for selling/buying a property?!

My mum & dad (albeit 35 years ago) had sold their place and were gazumped on the property they were going to buy about 3 weeks before completion date. They basically found somewhere, had all surveys etc done and kept the same completion date - all they had to do was give the removal company (which was already booked) the different address!!!!
I guess they were helped in that they had already sold theirs and presumably therefore already had a mortgage in place.
I'm just curious as to how fast these things can actually be?!!!
(As we're in the process of selling/buying I'm not sure I want to hear about the longest drawn out length of time!!!!!!)

It really does vary from property to property. It's a few years ago since I purchased a property, but I seem to recall making the offer late September and moving in mid-December, which is pretty good. Three months is a ball-park figure I guess.0

I know that this is a different world, but my friend used to work for a posh EA in Wilmslow (Footballers Wives Area) and they had people viewing on a Friday and moving in on a Monday.

I think usually four weeks, never shorter than that. It's nice to have the time to do things properly, have breathing and thinking space too. I've never really planned to do it quicker, it gives us time to prepare.
I do like going to auction though as I know it's mine very quickly and I'm an inpatient sort of girl.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Bought my first flat in four weeks. The vendor needed a quick sale (so we were told) and we were first time buyers, so all pretty straightforward. Ended up exchanging and completing on the same day, and it was horrendously stressful (but I think we were too young to really appreciate just how stressful - life was easier back then!).
I'd also expect it to take 3 months these days. Anything else just adds to the stress! Hurry it along, but it's a nightmare when people start pushing and threatening to pull out. Absolutely no need to stress out the buyers/vendors like that.
My current sale/purchase is probably going to be the longest (chains keep breaking down)! Although have spent a year on it all from start to finish before. That was a nightmare. Got a buyer on my flat on the first day it went on the market and they hung on for a year as we lost 2 houses along the way!

Our house purchase (as first time buyers) took 5 weeks, including a new mortgage application and our sellers remortgage application.Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0

My sister decided she wanted to buy a barn the day before it was due to be auctioned. She got the solicitors to do all the legal work that day so that it was hers at the end of the auction. A colleague of mine took 8 weeks from putting his house up for sale to completing in 2007.
I've also had a deal take 9 months from initial offer to exchange but that was down to the seller's stupidity, my solicitor's caution and not knowing that I could 'take a view' on certain problems.

SSTC in the December in between Christmas and New Year and moved out following Feb only 8 weeks from offer.0

We had our offer accepted on 23rd December and moved in 12th February - I think it worked out at 6 weeks and 2 days and that included Christmas and new year. We had FTBs for ours and moved into an empty property.
Trying to become debt free but this site makes me spend a fortune!!!

Last house I bought took 3 months from offer to completion. That was with no chain on either persons side, mortgage all ready.
My OH works with new build houses and they typically complete in 4 weeks.
Im hoping my current purchase also takes just 4 weeks, however with the amount of chasing ive had to do of the solicitors im sceptical as to how long it will take.0
