Srinagar bills in credit double vat charge British gas!

Hi, I may be behind the times here, got an actual metre read bill in for gas, previous bill n credit because an estimate by around £75, used £89 worth of gas during this period... So the £75 in credit was taken off the £89 used, but I had already paid my 5%vat on that credit but BG charged vat on the whole of the £89 used ie I paid the vat twice on the gas already pai for in credit!! That is incredibly sneaky and gives them a pure profit of an extra 5% as I am sure they're books wnt give a double entry for us paying twice their vat charge!!! I phoned and they did re calculate the correct vat after some supervisor persuasion, so they obviously know about it...as I say, sneaky and 5% of my money is just that, mine and not theirs!
I wonder if all the utilities companies do this wee scam on their unsuspecting customers!? Should I complain to the watchdog authority?

You don't pay VAT on your account credit. VAT is payable on the bill.
BG will get interest on the credit balance on your account though.
