Thanks for that MrsMondragon:) I'm a bit frightened of bleach - ruined too many coloured things with bleach splashes. The shirts have embroidered badges on them in green and red. How do I apply the bleach safely ? Sorry, my mum never used bleach so I'm not sure how to use it :o

I use bleach all the time in my laundry. My kidz white school tops are washed on hot with detergent and bleach and then the machine is turned off to soak for an hour before being turned back on and their school badges even on the shirts 4/5years old do not seem to be affected.

Can anyone help with this? My 2 boys have to wear white shirts for school. They come home with ink and all sorts on them. I save them up until the weekend where I put them all in the wash on a boil programme with some bleach but they never seem to come out looking that nice white colour. They weren't cheap shirts - they were from M&S. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
  • Not the best person to advise on this, but don't put the leach in with the detergent as it stops the detergent working properly. Try putting it spalshed on top just before you set it all off. Worked with my kitchen whites, back when i was a microwave technician.

    Hi

Do your boys change their shirts everyday which stops them looking really grubby? Buy some cheap school shirts at Primark and wash on 50degrees not 40 and you`ll see a difference.

I often add one dessertspoonful of soda crystals to the powder drawer , together with the normal washing powder. This seems to do the trick!

For white cotton clothes i use Napisan from Tesco and other supermarkets. It costs under £2 per box and i use a couple of teaspons in the wash.

However, Napisan isnt so good on nylon clothing and i use a couple of teaspoons of this in the wash. It brings them looking like new again.

I have been known to soak my sons shirts in a mild milton solution and then wash. It does certainly brighten them.
