Christmas Stockings

Hi,
Have started buying little stocking fillers for my son (6), my sister (33) and my brother in law (35). Just wondered what people put in their stockings and who you do stockings for?
It's my favorite part of christmas morning - waking up to feel the heavy lump on the end of the bed (not the cat! :rotfl:) and then all sitting on the bed opening our stockings.
We always have a satsuma in the bottom, a few nuts, sweets from the tin (usually Roses) and chocolate coins. Then little presents....
What goes in yours?

Gifts of time and love are surely the basic ingredients of a truly merry Christmas."

Well I dont get one cos my DH isnt that thoughtful! haha!
But I do one for him and he has shaving foam, aftershave, socks, usually a fun t-shirt or something similar, some choccies, a magazine that he likes and a miniture whisky. Thats the usual type of thing.
Would be nice if he surprised me with one this year but I very much doubt it!0 -
I must confess last year I bought them already filled from hawkins bazaar they are £15.00 for a stocking and its contents only trouble was there is so much stuff in them I couldn't get it all back into them so the kids ended up with extra presents under the tree I will say I thought they were great value and the kids loved them. I might do the same this year.:jmember of the thrifty gifty 2011 :j0

That is a brilliant idea! Might have a look out for those for DS0 -
Mine have a few chocolate coins, nuts, satsuma and a sugar mouse. Everything else is just anything small that suits the stage they're at just then. If you're stuck for inspiration, Hawkins Bazaar is good and Stocking Fillers, though its easy to get carried away on there! There might be some sort of toiletry, usually a small wind-up toy, like those chattering teeth, sometimes a mini puzzle book, perhaps a pretty or novelty pen, fancy character toothbrush, cuddly toy or puppet, blow-bubbles, keyring? I like those small music box things. There are lots of different tunes including xmas ones and you can get them on a few sites. Put - traditional hand cranked music box - into a search engine, should be about £5.
I never had a stocking as a child and always wanted one but beware, once you do it you might get stuck with it longer than you imagine. Mine are now young adults and still wants a stocking every year! :rotfl:0 -
I have the same problem Chatham and I have tried many times over the years to lose the stockings, but the girls love them and say they would rather have stockings than pressies under the tree!! haha. They all still come round early christmas morning in their christmas eve pyjamas to open them in my front room!!!! My Grandson too. May I add my girls are now 19,21,22, 26!!!!Pucker up and kiss it Whoville! - The Grinch:kiss:0

I agree. I made Ben a stocking for his 3rd Christmas and he's had one since. He asked why me and daddy didn't have one so since 2008 my boyfriend has had one - I haven't had a stocking since I was about 12 but I do miss them - use to love waking up to see it full!
This is going to sound ridiculous but I do stockings for
Ben
Holly (will get her first one this year)
Owen (boyfriend)
Bruno - my dog (this is Bens Christmas job)
Mums 2 cats - Little One and Thomas - a joint stocking
MIL dog - full of squeaky toys
SIL dogs - Roxy and Henry - treats
Ben gets little bits and pieces that he likes - usually some coins/chocolate santas, colouring pens, few small toy cars, stickers for whatever hes collecting at the time, socks and similiar.
Boyfriend gets little bits and pieces like smellies, a new wallet, something weird and quirky and chocolate coins (he'd only whine if he didnt!)
Holly will probably get some chocolate buttons and teethers/rattles etc as she'll only be 5/6 monthsTime to find me again0 -
I'll be 24 this Christmas, my sister 20, and we both still demand stockings :rotfl: Last year on Christmas Day I was up before Mum and she had to shoo me out of the lounge whilst she filled our stockings.
We usually get a mix of the following:
- Lindt Reindeer (we ALWAYS get one of these!)
- Bits for hair (bobbles, clips etc)
- Pens, pencils, other bits of stationary
- Bit of jewellery (I usually get a bracelet, my sister earrings or rings)
- Chocolate coins (another always!)
- Something quirky. Last year mum bought me a pen specially for writing on your hand! It came with lines to transfer to your skin
This is what our stocking's look like (this is mine.) Nana made them for us when we were kids. Just simple red with white trim but they've got our names on and a little green tree (on the other side for this photo) and they've worn spectacularly well!

Three of my children still live at home. There are two strapping boys aged 25 and 23 and my daughterl aged 17. On Christmas morning they all still come into my room and sit on my bed to open their stockings together. One of these days the bed will just drop through the floor!!! LOL0

Oooh! and a gingerbread man poking out of the top :j0

My stockings have always had a really random item of food in - last year I had a jar of pickled fish! We all (my brothers and sisters) get something completely random and end up tasting it on boxing day - its always funny to see who gets what!:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0
