JSA and Savings

Hi all,
A friend of mine has asked me this question, hope someone can shed some light?
He wants to claim JSA as he has lost his job recently and he has £6000 of savings, he was wondering does his partners savings also impact on his claim or is it just his savings that affects it?
Hope someone can help.
Many Thanks

if he is claiming contribution based(CB) JSA then his savings dont come into it. assuming he has been working for a couple years before claiming he should qualify for CB.
if it is income based(IB), basically he's not been working long and not payed enough NI then i 'think' reductions start at £6k savings and allowance disapears completely at £16k.
someone will confirm this on here i am sure.0 -
partners savings do count, and for income based JSA you lose £1 for every £250 of savings over £6000 at £16,000 no benefit payable0

my point was, that the threshold is £16000.00 ie you can have up to that amount and receive income-based JSA, there has to be a 1p difference somewhere doesn't there? (I mean whenever you have a cut-off point)well yes in theory it could,in practice would you allow your savings to exceed the limit by 1p?:money:
You said "at £16000, no benefit payable". I was just correcting that statement0
