I would also consider presenting at A&E if nothing is sorted soon. I done this a couple of yrs ago on the advice of my dr, though they sent me home they did make the referral to Crisis Team who came out that night.0

I did receive an assesment appointment today from another organisation similar to Mind.
I had been placed on a waiting list ages ago for an assesment.
Anyway, the appointment they offered me wasn't suitable, so I telephoned the place & explained to them. They got the therapist to telephone me to rearrange, but it seems the only days her & her partner work clash with my partners' work rota. She said she will try and sort something out, but didn't give me any estimation.
I've also got a new paitent form to fill in for a new surgery, so going to get that filled in a.s.a.p.
For some reason I'm quite wary of going to A & E. Have been before ages ago. They sent a cpn, he talked to me, then let me walk home alone. If my partner hadn't been driving home past the hospital and saw me wandering about, I don't know where I'd have ended up. Obviously, I suppose this has put me off going to A & E in the future.0 -
With regards to A&E if they make the assessment that you don't need to be put onto a psychiatric ward there is very little else they can do.
If you are genuinely in an extremely bad place I would call your doctors in the morning and insist that you are contacted by the crisis team that day - as that is their function, to avert an impending crisis situation, and also to hopefully resolve without having to go into psychiatric ward.
However, if you are in a bad place but not 'on the edge' so to speak then it unfortunately is a case of waiting for the referral which may not actually be the fault of the GP, just the waiting list for the CMHT.
Only you know how severe your problems are at the moment and if you can hold out for the appointment.
I really hope that you get some help soon x0 -
To be honest I'm quite exhausted and feeling rather confused.
From a good source, the psychiatric wards are full and they don't like to put depressed people on the ward anymore, but prefer to support them in their own home. Apparently, hospital is not always suitable as they are not a quiet enviroment what many depressed people require.
If the worst comes to the worst, I will go to A & E.0 -
It seems a bit odd that you didn't jump at the chance of taking the assessment appointment you were offered. Surely, if you were as ill as you would suggest, your partner would be willing to take time off work or perhaps other family members or friends would be willing to help with things at home to allow you to attend. It's unlikely that the crisis team, if you hear from them, will be as flexible with their appointments.0

I don't think it's odd.
It was a 9am appointment & to be quite honest, I'm no good at that time in the morning, certainly wouldn't be together enough to get the best out of the appointment.
I always take my partner to appointments, this way I feel reassured and with someone I can trust. I don't really like to ask him to take time from work either. His work isn't flexible, so it is very difficult for him to alter his rota.
Maybe I should've jumped at the chance, but my head isn't in the best place right now, so I'm not garunteed to make good decisions.0 -
Hi
You can contact the out of hours team without being seen by any mental health teams. So this might be an option for you tonight.
Also doctors do ring referrals through to other teams so this may have been done, if you don’t think it has self refer tomorrow this can be done.
I am in England and these are the rule here. If you are elsewhere please tell me where you are and I can find out information for you.
Take care:j0 -

Hi I know what you mean. In my area they actually built a purpose built Mental Health Day Unit.
It was a life saver. Then a few years back all of the patients were discharged to their GP & if really ill, to MIND as well! The building now houses a walk in centre for a GP practice.
I know of two former patients that couldn't cope without the organised day service, they both committed suicide.0
