npower 'fuel switch' £1,300 'grant'!!!

We have a solid fuel central heating boiler and we want to change to a new gas boiler.
I've searched for grants but most seem limited to applicants receiving benefit and we don't qualify.
The npower website however is offering grants of £1,300 for anyone swapping from solid fuel central heating to gas. They refer to it as a 'fuel switch grant' and have confirmed that we would qualify.
I can't find any reference to it on the internet, nor any reviews. It seems to work by them coming to assess the existing system and giving a quote for a new one 'taking into consideration the £1,300 grant'. We aren't npower customers and npower staff seemed very vague about where the grant was coming from.
I'm wary that it could be the standard practice of trying to get a sale by artificially inflating the price before subtracting the 'grant', but we don't want to lose out if the offer is genuine. I've arranged for someone to come next week but now I'm having second thoughts.
Does anyone have any experience of this?
Thanks in anticipation.

Get a couple of quotes beforehand if possible.
Being cynical I suspect that they will charge £1,500 more than average and reduce that by £1,300
Make sure any quotes for comparison purposes are 'like for like'0 -
normal companys charge 1500, they charge 3000 to cover no company gives something for nothing0

Could it actually be a Warmfront / Government grant?

I agree with Cardew, get several quotes before you do anything.
I suggest that you then choose the best quote that isn't from Npower (It is a dreadful company & your "vague" doesn't surprise me at all. You can google for it's customer service reputation if you wish!)0 -
I've just done a quickl google for fuel switch grant & it does appear to be a Governmenet grant, eg see here
