Vw new cars major delays

Options
Is anyone else aware that delivery on new VW's is seriously delayed. I ordered VW Tiguan in August and was told production in Germany was slow and delivery would be late November. Now the date is March 2011! What is going on? What should I do? Cancel? AND VAT will be charged at 20% !! Got to be a joke!

I wonder if this is related to the floodings in parts of Europe. I know they have affected Skoda's delivery times.
  • I too ordered a VW in September, they are currently quoting delivery the last week in march! Some 25 weeks appose to 12. No reason for the delay has being given.

However VW will cover the VAT rise for all customers who order before the end of September, and they will give you a courtesy car if the delivery exceeds 16 weeks.

Although you will have to flight for these things.

I have to say VW has the worst customer service I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.

what engines are you going for?

Has there not been one particular engine in short supply?

VW's are over rated and certainly over priced.

    Buy something else...sorted.;)

According to Honest John in the Telegraph motoring section the long delays are because of the Euro/Pound exchange rate. VW can make more money selling in Europe so the production of relatively small numbers of right hand drive vehicles is given a low priority. The dealership won't t5ell you that, of course, and make up other excuses.

I've suspected the same (about euro to £) as there are a large number of manufacturers now that have quite serious lead times for vehicles.

16 to 26 weeks seems quite common for even "ordinary" cars.

Look at how long people on honest john have screamed about the Hyundai IX35 (2 litre diesel models).

There are plenty 6 months + waits on there with no idea when they might ever get the car.

I'm sorry but i'd never wait 6 months for a car. Regardless of model/make

It's unacceptable that a manufacturer expects customers in this day and age to wait half a year for a lump of metal and then expect £25k+ for it

The most i've waited for a brand new car is 4 weeks. That to me is still too long but i accepted it.

Then again i'd never buy a brand new car again. Nice when you arrive to collect it, but that sore ar*e feeling you get when you pull away from the dealer knowing you've just lost 3 grand already is not a nice feeling

They way it reads for a lot of those hanging on is that the price is now protected at what it was when they ordered it (which means the dealer/hyundai are eating the price increase from November - circa £1K + the VAT Rise come Jan 3rd) and the cost of the trade in (that many owners are still driving around in and racking up the miles on).

I suspect for most the option of not getting the car is going to be the same as the £3k depreciation hit now they have waited so long.

The problem i can see is that even "nearly new" prices are inflated over list price on many cars at the moment due to excessive lead times.

I'm unsure if it really is a euro / £ issue (which i suspect doesn't help) or if manufacturers have screwed the pooch in terms of dialing back due to the "credit crunch" and now find that a lot of their suppliers can't ramp up when needed.

Basically just in time supply has turned into a bit of a disaster.
