New central heating..estimate on cost?

Hi, just wondered if there were any plumber/central heating fitters on the forum or if anyone has had central heating fitting recently?
Am in the process of buying a house, ironically, its right next door to the rented house i currently live in. It has been occupied for 20 years by an elderly gent who died in may and as such has not been updated in that time. It has no mod cons whatsoever, but i love the area/street and want to stay here. I've had access to the house today and had a fitter in today(the one my rental company uses and i trust him) to measure up and give me a quote. He hasnt come back to me yet, but states i need 8 radiators and recommended a Worcester Bosch boiler be installed which will go in the old airing cupboard in the bathroom and a flue will need taking out through the roof? There is a hot water heater in the bathroom that needs removing and the wall putting right again. The house is an old 2 bed stone fronted terrace in Lancashire with a kitchen/bathroom extension at the back, effectively giving 3 up/3 down.
What i'm after is a rough guide as to what sort of quote to expect? Like i've said, he has done work in my current rented property and i've always found him honest and reliable. I appreciate i may have to pay a bit more for that, but a ball park figure would give me something to compare to.
Many thanks in advance
Steff

  • Hi, we had a Worcester Bosch Combi boiler fitted including 2 new radiators and one old one changed, all old boiler, fittings etc removed and had a fairly expensive wireless programmer fitted at a cost of £2200, I know its not exactly the same situation as you have but gives you something to go at.
  • Thanks Dave. I'm expecting the boiler to be around 1200-1500 on its own, so was thinking maybe another 1500 for the rads/fitting. The house will be empty whilst the work is carried out so should make it easier to install. Will see if anyone else comes up with any ideas.

  • Hi there. 8 rads, wireless programmable room thermostat, a combi boiler and associated work you be looking at around £4500 to £5500 vat inclusive. I am not sure what the existing setup is in the house you mentioned but this would include new pipework, filling and commissioning the new system etc. Also with a combi you may also need to replace the shower to be compatible with the new boiler, so you would potentially need to consider the cost for a thermostatic mixer shower. These can be picked up and installed for £150+ with a 5 year warranty. Yes the flue will need to exit the roof to expel all fumes in the atmosphere. As with all condensing boilers there will also be a condense pipe which will need to link to the downpipe drainage system or an alternative method.

I'm no expert but have been getting quotes since the Summer for a gas central heating install so am learning as I go along. Prices may vary depending on where you are based. I am out in Cambs area.
