please help housing assoaton threw all my stuff out

hi there i wanted some advice please or if anyone knwo of any case law

i was with housing association for about 4 months i was suffering homophobic abuse every time i left the property i contacted them and the police on several occasions to advise them cannot cope with this i suffer with sever metal health issues and could not continue on with any treatment at all whilst all this was gong on i was forced to stay in after 5p due to all the abuse that i was getting

they did nothing to help me or the situation they advised me that they might be able to move me after a 12 moth period has gone by but then ill move to do a totally different area i said i cannot do this as i would b isolated form f the on family member that ia have left and my current treatment that i was currently undergoing to help me with my mental health issues i had already rpalced wht th stres of all this and tried to take my own life but failed



i found a place of my own and gave them 4 weeks notice as stated in my tenancy i had rent on homes paid for the 4 weeks but left my stuff in there as i juts wanted to get out i moved into a place next to my cousin and she was helping me with my relapse that i was currently going though which was very scary for me

they had my phone number and my new address to contact me i called them up to get an extension on the tenancy but i was advised ill have to pay the extra rent i said this was ok thy gave me a 4 week extension on the phone i have phone records to prove this also

2 weeks later they threw all my stuff out and did not contact me they had given me a 14day notice yet they kindly sent me the letter withall the new charges on

what can i do to get compensation or all the stuff they threw away pleas help me

    Do you pay the rent yourself or is it paid direct to your landlord by the housing benefit, I thought housing associations receive money directly. In which case it may be that your rent wasn't paid as HB stops if you move. If this was the case then it may be that the housing association gave you notice to leave as your rent wasn't being paid.

    Even so, it does seem out of order to throw your stuff out on the street, just because you ignored the 14 day notice. Are you sure it was the housing association and not the next tenant?

  • it was paid for by hosing benefit but the extra 4weeks i was paying but they changed the locks2 week later before the 4 weeks was up and only sent me a letter telling me they have done this they did not give m any note what so ever

    It sounds like housing benefit told the housing association that you had moved out and they were stopping paying rent.

  • no i had an agreement with the housing association itsself for the extension i had to pay them ta the end of the 4week but they threw my stuff out 2 week into it

    You should seek help with:

    Your local Citizens Advice branch.

    Your local branch of the mental health charity MIND - http://www.mind.org.uk/ - who should also be able to help you.

    You might also wish to get in touch with any charities which help with those who believe they are suffering from homophobic abuse such as;

    Stonewall - http://www.stonewall.org.uk/

    Stonewall's telephone number is 08000 502020 and they can advise on homophobic issues which, as you say you were suffering abuse at the time of all this which made your health worse, is worth giving them a call.

    Please consider contacting the above or, if you have a local gay rights charity, contacting them as well as MIND and your local citizens advice.

    At least one of those should be able to help you on where you stand legally and they may just have someone who is able to come along with you to the housing association to help you argue your case.

    Gather up your documentation, including proof of rent paid, letters, etc, and book an appointment with Citizens Advice or Shelter to get them to assist you.

    I don't know if it works differently in social housing, but in private rentals, a landlord is obliged to store uncollected goods from their tenants for 90 days. Citizens Advice or Shelter will be able to tell you if there is the same or similar law for a social housing landlord that obliges them to look after what they think are abandoned items from their ex tenants, or not.

    I hope you can find some help for your personal problems also. Stress is a terrible thing and it can cause all sorts of anxieties, panic attacks and so on. One in five people will go through a mental health issue at some point in their life and most will eventually come through it so hold on in there. You have a right to be happy, to live a good life and to be the person you are meant to be. Everything that you are was created inside a Star deep within the Universe. You are a spiritual being living this life. Live it to the best that you can. I wish you all the best.
