Buildstore Tradecard

Wondering if anyone has applied for/ or uses one of these Buildstore Tradecards?

I was introduced to lead by Insurance company I am using for my renovation insurance...
Seems if I complete forms, I will receive a Trade card to give me discount from purchases of materials etc from Wolseley, Magnet, Carpetright, Sheffield Insulation and others...

It stateds it is not a credit card - purely a discount card.

    hi there,
I had a tradecard for my project a few years ago - you are right, it is a discount card, you dont use it for payment. The merchants can set you up with an account, and for other suppliers, you can show your card to get a discount. I think the discounts vary, but they should be able to tell you what discount you get where. Also, the people at buildstore can help you with tracking down the best deals and products, and that is very useful when you are a complete novice and don't know where to start looking for building materials!
It was free to get one, and I reckon I saved at least £5k with it!
  • Hello,
You can read about BuildStore's Trade Card here: www dot buildstore dot co dot uk/materials or you can visit the National Self Build & Renovation Centre in Swindon and apply for one there.
Because of the sheer number of people undertaking these major self build and renovation projects, BuildStore have been able to get good price deals with a number of suppliers and merchants, thus turning an ordinary self builder into a tradesman, getting trade prices/deals on materials, tool hire, fittings, kitchens, furtniture, etc.
Great idea, and there's no catch! Just a discount card to show! You will also get lots of project support, and a full 'manual' that you can download, for help at each stage of your project - what materials you need, when to get trademsen in, etc.

    I've got one.

You get accounts with Wolseley and Jewsons, and loads others. Between all the accounts I got, I had credit up to about £50,000. The discounts you get are comparable to what you can negotiate yourself from local builders merchants. It's great for getting more unusual stuff, I've e-mailed the details of what I want to the Tradecard and they have found a vendor for that item.

And if you are doing self build or major renovation, definitely go to the National Self Build and Renovation centre in Swindon (or Scotland somewhere). It's brilliant.
