Do Santander still issue Full Debit Cards?

I currently have a non embossed (flat numbers etc) Visa Debit card. I changed my account to a Student account at the end of August and went into my local branch today to enquire as to the where abouts of my new card and was told that one had been sent but seemingly got lost in the post.

He seemed to suggest that this card was a full debit card (inherited from my previous current account) however it says 'Electronic Use Only' on the back and i'm fairly sure they arent accepted on trains etc.

So my question is: do Santander issue 'offline' debit cards (with raised numbers ) and if so is there criteria that I need to fulfill to get one? (considering I have been with Abbey since when I was about 15!)

Yes they do still issue the embossed card, without cheque facility. You have to qualify for it, But i have no idea what the criteria is.

i got an embossed one sent when they changed from abbey to santander - but i had one before

Santander sent me an embossed visa debit after the merger with A&L - this is for a premier 21 account.

Thanks for that, I did get ordered a mutli purpose card, so whether that will be a full embossed debit card is another story. Santander are taking an age to send out cards it seems. I can always threaten to take my business elsewhere as I know for a fact that I can get a full debit card with a number of other banks!

Received an embossed card in the post today. Only been waiting a month for it and cancelled it at the weeked as had assumed it was lost. Hopeless!
