argos value Bagless Cylinder Cleaner

I bought this product this morning took it home unpacked it and started to hoover the rug in livingroom.
When there was a tereble smell of burning smoke alarms started going off and the electric tripped out(luckily)
The hoover had caught fire.
i have taken it back to argos who game me a refund and filled a form out to say the product was faulty and dangerous and had caused damage to property.
I want to know where i stand on the damage that was caused to my laminate flooring where there is a burn mark in the middle of the floor after the insident.

  • My intitial thought is I would take them to the cleaners, but if I just say that, some onthis parish would jump straight to the abuse button and that would be the end of Freddies comment.

No, first thing is to check out your shousehold insurance, take photo of the damage, and use their legal team. If you have no insurance, still take photo and explain to Argos.

Then read my first point again.

They've given you a form to complete. Suggest you complete it and return it before taking any further action.

Take some photos, get some quotes for repairs and forward that onto Argos marked FAO: Insurance Department. Indicate that you filled out a Haznot form in store and require Argos to pay for the repairs.

At this stage they are following the correct process for dangerous items / property damage. It might be worth calling the store to ensure they have sent the form to the insurance team and check the "resolved in store" box was ticked as a no as you will be claiming for the damaged floor. Customer services 0845 640 3030 is usually the easiest way to get in contact with a store, the store public number is usually 0845 1657 XXX where XXX is the store number found in the back of the catalogue.

I would keep on top of it and send the photos to them, I will find the address tomorrow if you need it (As it usually goes to another location than Milton Keynes)

You just have to let the process run its course and see what happens. The retailer will pass the information on to their insurer's who'll no doubt be in touch to arrange for an assesor to visit. In the meantime get at least 3 quotes to have the floor repaired. BTW, why would the whole floor require replacing - is it glued or click fit?
