Paying chq into A&L (now Santander) current a/c

Wonder if anyone can advise.
Following the takeover of the A&L by Santander, how does one deposit a chq into their account. Formerly, it could be done via either the Post Office with deposit slip and depositing same in preprinted envelope at the counter or of course, posting to them at Bootle. Has anyone had experience of this since the takeover and if so, did everything go OK?
Reading thru the T&C from Santander it would seem A&L customers can deposit cheques at their cash machines - is this correct??
As I've quite a sizeable cheque to deposit, the last thing I want is for it to go missing in the system!
Thanks

I have paid into the post office before and after the takeover/merger/integrationg whatever you want to call it. At the Post Office the process is the same, they give you a reciept for the envelope NOT the cheque. Touch wood its been ok so far but I certainly wouldn't pay in a large sum.
I don't know if you can pay in via Santander branches, are there no A & L branches remotely nearby (given the peace of mind you seek for a large sum)?Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0 -
Since the takeover I have continued to bank my cheques at the Post Office, and I haven't had any problems at all. That said, on one occasion I had a particularly high value cheque, so I chose to send it by special delivery (which I had to pay for) rather than take the risk that it might go missing in the post.
I don't know if you can pay in via Santander branches, as I don't have any of them near me either.0 -

If it is one of the newer machines that are inside some branches you can pay in cheques, it scans them, asks you to confirm the amount or amend it if necessary and you get a copy of the cheque on the back of the receipt.0 -
Thanks for the replies everyone.
Luckily we have an A&L branch near us and decided to pay in over the counter. Very straight forward no problems whatsoever. On my return home checked my a/c on line which had instanteously credited the chq (albeit awaiting clearance) and a cash withdrawal made over the counter this am.:D

Thanks mjm3346 for the info. This was also confirmed to me by an Asst Mgr who was assisting clients whilst in the queue to see a cashier.0 -
Paying in at the PO is no problem and the procedure is unchanged. There is a new design of envelope with a slightly different address (in green ink...... but still in Bootle) but the old ones are OK.
When you next get a paying in book it will be a different design - and looks like you will also be able to pay in over the counter at a Santander branch if that is preferable.0 -
Anyone know for sure yet if you can pay a cheque into an A&L account over the counter in a Santander (ex Abbey) branch?
I have a cheque which I want to pay in tomorrow. I don't have an A&L branch anywhere near by but I will be passing a Santander branch.
I've been receiving Santander branded Statements since June and my sort code has been changed to an Abbey one so I'll be pretty peeved off if I can't. Although I don't have Santander branded paying-in slips, only A&L ones.0 -

Yes, I deposited a cheque over the counter at an ex Abbey branch last Monday. Checked account online on Tuesday and credit was showing but uncleared. Funds were available on Friday night when I checked again.0 -
