  • I'm not going to another country that needs it.
Going to Jo'Burg, Cape Town, Namibia & Botswana.

    Thank you

We have travelled that route and didn't require vaccinations for a stopover in Nairobi. I think it would be different if you left the airport.
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

  • I appreciate you're flying KQ, but since I had occasion to browse SAA's website the other day I remembered there was a yellow fever advisory on there. From South African Airways' website:

YELLOW FEVER POLICY FOR THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA

    light-blue-table-top-right2.gif

Yellow fever remains a major public health threat in the world despite the availability of an effective vaccine. Attached is a guideline.
In order to prevent introduction of the disease into the country, South Africa requires a valid yellow fever certificate from all citizens and non-citizens over one year of age travelling from an infected area or having been in transit through infected areas. Passengers who are unable to produce a valid certificate of vaccination on arrival or in transit will either be placed under quarantine or refused entry into South Africa. Airports must therefore ensure that all passengers coming from infected areas comply with the vaccination requirements prior to being allowed onboard the aircraft.
To assist passengers SAA will be checking the requirements leaving South Africa as they would be required to be in possession of this certificate on the return flight. Passengers making a return booking to or from these countries must be advised that they require a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Disinsection of aircraft is required coming from infected areas.

List of countries for which a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for entry into South Africa.

Looks like you may not need the vaccination for the Nairobi stopover, but could get problems without it upon arrival in SA. Have you checked with the SA consulate?
  • Hi There!

Thank you very much for the reply & for the great information.
I shall contact the SA embassy & see what they advise.

    Many Thanks

  • I ve just come back from an overland trip to kenya and Tanzania and wasn't asked for my yellow fever certificate at the two border crossings we did - kenya to Tanzania and then Tanzania to Kenya. Our guide told us that they are not vey strict in Kenya at checking for this - but guarenteed if you didn't get the jab, they d ask to see it!

I wouldn't have thought you would need to show anything on arriving in kenya, maybe at your next destination if they are more strict in that country.
