Hertz Rentals - Compensation?

Hi,

I was hoping for some advice.

I reserved a rental online with Hertz on Friday with no problems (I had to go to another location, as the two I previously have used had no cars available).

However, on saturday morning (two hours prior to my collection time), I receive a call from the rental branch to tell me that unfortunately they had no cars available and that they couldn't transfer it to another branch as no others had cars either....but they had taken my money!

As you can imagine, I was furious as I had to try and find another rental location as I had plans. I was unable to find somewhere else at the last minute and unfortunately, even if I did, I wouldn't have had the complete funds (plus deposit) to rent another car due to the money being taken by Hertz (£150).

I gave them a call and they said that they would send me a £30 rental voucher, but I just do not feel that this is good enough. I am in a band and we had a private performance on saturday evening (3 hours away from where I live). We were being paid for this and obviously not only do we look unprofessional, but we missed out on our fee.

I just wanted to know if someone could let me know what my rights are, as I want to write a formal letter of complaint and demand more by the way of compensation.
