Hi one and all.
I'm after some advice as every where else I have looked cant be bothered.
I am a 52 year old carer for my disabled wife.
Up until recently She was getting dla higher rate for both care and mobility incapacity benefit and income support for both of us as we are a couple.
I was in receipt of carers allowance.
Now its all change. My sweet darling has reached retirement age and after several weeks of head scratching phone calls ect to the variouse departments she now gets her state pension and pension credits. she still gets her dla and I get the carers allowance.
I have been told that I am entitled to claim income support but no one can tell me if this will affect any of the other benefits we have been awarded.
It took long enough and too many headaches to get as far as we have and I do not want to naff anything up that has already been sorted.
HELLLLLP PLEEEEEEZZZEEE Can I claim IS without any affect or will they just stop our money that we are already getting while they take years to sort it out.
Cheers for any info in advance SPiRit 42

Have you tried 'entitledto.com'
One think I do know is that DLA is disregarded when it comes to means tested benefits.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

I know dla is not counted and currently I can earn up to £90.00 per week before my carers allowance is affected. its the pension credit vs income support thats confusing the whole issue.
Even CAB scratched their heads loads on this one and came up with dunnow:think::think::think:0 -

you cannot claim IS while she is claiming Pension Credits, it is one or the other, you should be on her claim for pension credit, I am surprsied that CAB had a problem with that one.0 -
Agree with the above post, you should be on her pension credit claim as a couple or her on your IS claim as a couple.0

cheers for the help. I thought that was the case but due to living in an area that still uses drums as a meathod of comunication was a tad uncertain.
