Help

We are needing help! We lived in a property for 5 months in west lothian. The electricity was at times costing us 40 pounds per day. The toutal for 5 months was 2400 pounds. From January to May (when we left) we had three radiators on for 2 hours each day, unti we got the fire started. We had the electric lighting switched off and were using candles. The electricians sent by the landlord were instructed not to do track and trace. We suspect that the landlord was taking the electricty to power other buildings on the site.. Having left the property he is now taking us to court. What I am lookig for is a qualified person to tell me how much, generally, a property of 3 bedrooms, Should cost to run per month with panel heating. If anybody can help, I can provide more acurate details of the items in the house.

Many thanks

Three heaters for two hours per day would use not more than 18 kWh - about £1.80 (or £2.50 to £3.50 if a more expensive tariff). A single heater uses about 3 units each hour at most (less once thermostat kicks in - but that may not happen much the first two hours.)

Are you sure the heaters were only on for 2 hours?
  • We did not use the heating at all to start with, then used an electric echo heater in the kitchen, but Scottish Power told us these were expensive to run. So We used the three radiators, 2 in the lounge and one in the kitchen for 2 hours to take the chill off before we got the coal fire going. It was miserable and we slept in the lounge, with candles instead of elelctric lighting.

I agree with KimYeovil ... Are you really sure that it has come up with the 2 hours usage?

    Hi Speedy Gonzalez

Something does not sound right here. If your heaters were only on for 2 hours per day then it is very unlikely that you would have used £2400 worth of electricity within 5 months. If these panels heaters and plug in heaters were used for far longer each day, then it is possible that you could have run up a bill of this size, expecially over the colder months.

I will be happy to look into this for you if you wish to see if I can find any other reason for the large bill.

    Kind Regards
