Who pays return carriage for faulty goods?

Apologies in advance if this has been covered recently but a quick search has brought up nothing and I have a baby about to wake up so don't have the time to look any longer!
I recently bought an item from a shop over the phone on 29th August and it arrived on 3/4th September. I didn't open it immediately as I was away and by the time I did my rights under the DSRs had expired. (This may or may not be relevant).
I noticed that the item has a fault (leather is missing from a section of the bag) and so have contacted the manufacturer (also the seller in this instance) about the problem. They are happy to look at the bag and repair/replace under their own one year warranty and have asked me to send the bag to them fully insured as it is high value.
I am trying to understand who is liable for these return carriage costs. Under their own warranty they do not mention this. If I had noticed before the expiry of the DSRs then I believe they would have had to pay... Do I have any cover under the Sale of Goods Act?
Many thanks in advance for your advice!

Thanks for that Torby - I had skimmed that earlier but in my haste has missed the crucial sentence: "f the goods are faulty, then under Sale of Goods, the supplier will always bear the cost of returning them." Brilliant.
More info here as well if anyone is researching the same problem: http://whatconsumer.co.uk/delivery-and-collection-of-goods/0
