Last year I got my OH a bottle of beer from every (well almost every) county in England. I made it up to 52 bottles - there are 48 counties - for a bottle a week & made up a poem which I gave him with his stocking. The large & v heavy boxes of beer were at my sister's house where we were having dinner & exchanging gifts.
He loved it, but they didn't last a year!!!!!!!!!!!
For a birthday once I got him a Caterham driving experience which he also loved - he'd done some single seater racing in the past.
thats a really good idea! where did you get the beer from?
Thanks!Married the absolute love of my life on Sunday May 6th and I couldnt be happier!!!0 -

Thanks!
I managed to get a lot of it from supermarkets, they have a really good range especially in Morrisons, some from independent wine merchants & the rest online from Beers of Europe.
I could only buy online in a box of 12 so I did have to cheat on a couple & I couldn't track down beers from some counties so I made it up with beers from our home county & from Cornwall where my OH grew up.
If you're interested I could send you the spreadsheet(!) I used to record the beers I found.0 -
I think it would be nice to give him an annual driving experience of some sort - tractors, diggers, helicopters, flights and so on. Buyagift.co.uk has Quidco and there are always codes floating around as well so it can be a bit :money:Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76
Three gifts left to buy0 -
If he's the man who has everything get him nothing....
give him a cheque book with "I'll do the dishes" or "I'll dress up for you tonight" vouchers in it.....
very MSE:money:
tbh we only do these "experience" type gifts once in a blue moon otherwise it would not be a surprise at all. We also agreed years ago if there's nothing the other one wants or needs we will give the money to charity and count our blessings that we don't need anything.:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

"I'll do the dishes"??? Over my dead body!! thats his job, besides, all he has to do is load the dishwasher!! lol
I think I might suggest this year as neither of us wants anything particularly, that we buy something for the house, or put some money towards a break for the 2 of us. That way we both get something to look forward to later in the year.
As for giving the money to charity? I donate by direct each month to 3 different charities, not a huge amount, but it adds up through the year. I also organise the Christmas Shoe Boxes for the Soldiers, do a Macmillan Coffee morning and did the Race for Life this year - I do enough without having to feel guilty. Although I might buy him a years supply of malaria tablets from Oxfam.....lolMarried the absolute love of my life on Sunday May 6th and I couldnt be happier!!!0 -

I'd love it please!! This sounds amazing for my OH's birthday.
How long did it take you to do? and was it expensive?0 -

The research took quite a while but finding the beers wasn't too hard. As I said, the supermarkets have a really good selection so I went round those first & the local wine merchants. There is a really good online store, Beers of Europe http://www.beersofeurope.co.uk/ where I got the rest from. The main problem comes with having to order in multiples of 12 so I had to do a bit of fiddling. Also I couldn't find beers from some counties so I made it up with beers from the county we live in & the one my OH grew up in.
It cost about £100 to do, took up a huge amount of room & was impossible to wrap!
I'll send you the spreadsheet & the poem I used if you send me a PM with your email address.0 -
I think I may have found the perfect present!
We both love the Lake District and are going up there October, and suddenly I had a brain wave!
Helicopter flight over the Lakes. I looked on the internet and found a company based in Blackpool who do pleasure flights. A 30 minute one is £145.
Dont think thats a bad price?Married the absolute love of my life on Sunday May 6th and I couldnt be happier!!!0
