Hi Folks ... have I got this right?

Net benefit of my wife signing onto JSA = £10.45 a week,
[STRIKE]plus national insurance credits.[/STRIKE]

Background: My wife was made redundant from her main job 10 months ago (coinciding
with maternity leave). Her second job is 10hrs/week and earns £60 gross.

* We are married. She is 28.
* She currently works less than 16 hours
* She is available/able/actively looking for full time work
* She will apply for CB JSA as my income and savings precludes IB JSA
* She has sufficient NI contributions for CB JSA
* CB JSA pays £65.45/wk from which £55 is deducted (her earnings less single person disregard)

* She will automatically get NI credits without JSA
because she is receiving Child Benefit

Cheers for any comments :)

With a baby she'll be getting NI credits anyway so it's not an additional benefit.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

    Cheers HappyMJ.

So now I cant really see a point to a JSA claim.

We aren't hard up enough for £20/month to make a difference or warrant the effort involved.

  • You'll actually be £10.45 a week better off, rather than £5.45.
Google is my friend ..... :j
  • the 'credits' she gets with her child benefit ("home responsibilities protection") will only go towards her retirement pension.but NI credits awarded during a JSA claim may also count towards a future claim for either JSA or ESA in the next 2 or 3 years, she presumably would still be looking for work, so theres no 'extra' effort involved, and will be able to prove for future employers what she was doing in between jobs-which she cant if she doesn t claim. She may also claim help towards travelling to interviews.
