and just to confirm HL has nothing to do with the return on your investments they are simply a cheap provider, and i really like there online platform same with halifax actually there rates arent great but there online service is the best
Yes it does if you're using their portfolio managed service, but then they advise 100K investment

But then you're just using them as an advising IFA, and not benefiting from comparing their services with those of other IFAs. If you're asking people to comment on them as an advisor, then you're coming close to asking people to recommend an IFA, which is a big no-no from this site's point of view.Yes it does if you're using their portfolio managed service, but then they advise 100K investment
As an advisor, asking what returns people are getting is futile, because HL's advice (and your potential return) would be based on you as an individual.
HL come into their own as a discounted execution-only service with a great online portal. You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0 -
I understand what you're saying, but isn't it possible to gauge the quality of their advice from people's experiences, whether personalised or not? I suppose you can't without a large amount of feedback.
Anyway, it's irrelevant now. Thanks anyway.0 -

yes and no. Over the years I have heard people judge advisers not on the relative performance or their service but purely on whether the investments went up or down. i..e they have been negative when the investments dropped without realising that it was the market in general that did. You frequently hear of people say one investment or adviser is better than another but in reality its usually more down to timing and risk profile.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
They do need to be left alone for as long as possible. The percentage gain varies according to which fund you choose. I chose my 5 funds from H-L's Wealth 150 list, what they regard as the top-performing 150 out of literally thousands. Which funds you choose depends entirely on yourself, your own aims, preferences, you name it.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
Before I found wisdom, I became old.0 -
OP wasn't looking to choose himself, he was asking for opinion on HL's portfolio management service, where he gives them £100k and says "make it grow" (and they ask a few questions, as wellmargaretclare wrote: »They do need to be left alone for as long as possible. dunstonh has a good point, I imagine there are a lot of numpties out there who would judge them on whether the market rose (??) or fell, rather than the quality of service, understanding of needs and communication. You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0
