I was told by the Pension Credit line, that, if I signed up for Pension Credit, rather than getting my wife to sign up fo Income support (Im disable, she is my carer) that we would be financially better off.
I get my Pension Credit letter today and it now looks like I am getting around £14 a week less !!!

Previously I was getting Income Support/Incapacity benefit of £193.07 Per week, Plus My Wifes carers allowance of £53.90 =£246.97

Now we are to receive Incapacity benefit of £99.80 Plus Pension credit of £78.75 and Carers allowance of £53.90 = £232.45
Which leaves us £14.53 worse off per week.

So Pension Credit told me an absolute pack of lies when I signed up.
It now looks like we will have no option other than for my wife so sign on for Income Support for us both, which to be honest is what the IS people told us to do as even they foresaw trouble, but I believed the Pension Credit people and now we have to take an income cut.

I'm pretty cheesed off

Is your daughter included in your IS claim or do you get CTC?

  • I can see which way this is going always, so many people got caught out with the child element coming off income support, I know I did.
Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool

    That's where your problem is.

IS claims now do not include children and parents are expected to claim child tax credits. This will not be included with the PC claim. So basically you are not getting anything for your DD. I am not sure whether you can claim CTC and PC at the same time and how this would affect your award, but you should be getting approx £50ish per week for her.

HMM Looks Like I should be looking into this but Im pretty sure I was told that, as I was claiming for her on my IS CTC would not be paid.
She's 16 now and at college and in recept of EMA on her own.

If she is in full time education you can still claim CTC and CB for her.

If the child element is included in your IS claim you don't get CTC.

    Which you no longer do.

You need to get a better off calculation done, but in reality you should be better off on PCs.
