AntivirusIS - How to get rid of.

I'm at the end of my patience with a "program" called Antivirus IS.
Last night it appeared on my laptop and now I can't open anything, not even the chatassist.exe, which I need to chat online with McAfee, or Malware removal programs. Pop-ups and warnings appear every couple of minutes.
In short what can I do to get rid of this.

I'm borrowing this advice from one of our resident Techies in the hope it'll get you started with solving this problem:

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_ma..._anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM FULL SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log in THIS thread AFTER youve deleted everything it finds

    REBOOT Your Computer then

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD THIS VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/2894/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

I downloaded Malwarebytes, but when I try to install it a popup warning appears telling me it can't be opened as it's infected!

Rename the Malwarebytes.exe file - just the bit before the .exe then try.

Go to MBAM folder ( C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware)and rename the "mbam.exe" file (i.e. richv.exe)within the folder. Then doubleclick the richv.exe in order to run the program.
  • my wife managed to install this a few days ago, clicked a link from a hacked facebook account. I followed the instructions Marleyboy posted above, 5 minutes and it's gone :)

I then installed win7 (from xp) and better security on her machine to hopefully make it harder to make the same mistake again, the machine was bought 2nd hand and came with AVG installed - I really should have known better :)
