help please, CD stuck in the drive

Hi,

Wondering if anyone here can help. I was just in the process of ripping some CD's to this laptop and I've come accross a 10 year old CD it doesn't recognise as a music CD... I didn't think that too great a problem in itself but now the drawer wont open and so I can't get the CD out, or any other CD's in.

Anyone know how to resolve it without causing more damage?
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared
[STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt. :(

tried going to My Computer, right clicking on it and selecting "eject" ?
  • There should be a small round depressed circle on the cd drive.

Insert a clip or something and push - should eject the drive manually.

That would be a hole, in common parlance?! Yes, open out and use the thickest paperclip which will fit the small hole at the front of the drive, and push slowly but firmly, and the drawer should open.

yup, its the hole you want.

The 2 optical drives I can see where I'm sat do also have depressed circles.... -containing the LED that flashes when the thing spins up.

They probably do not stand up too well to a paperclip poking.

Rubbish I had a Toshiba for 2 years that from about a month old, the cd drive would only open with a good paper clip poking. Its still going strong now in the hands of my nephew.

Has the OP tried switching the machine off, then trying the eject button again after switching back on?

you open your CD drive by poking the status LED bulb with a paperclip rather than putting it into the manual release mechanism hole?

must be a very strange optical drive design.....

You have a very selective way of quoting other people posts. You should read the whole post before posting such a comment.
