Honeymoon in November

We're looking for to honeymoon in November 2010, £1k pp including a little spending money and we don't drink too much.

He's looking for a beach type holiday with water activities
I'm looking for a pool and luxury luxury luxury.

We really don't need to sight see too much (I'm a nervous tourist!)

Ideally I'd like a 14 night holiday. For somewhere out of this world I would consider 7 nights I guess.

Where's best to go to get the most for our money? We went to Kenya 3 years ago and it was lovely, but would like to experience somewhere new.
I love surprises!

Yes there are too many ideas really. I also find it difficult with the star ratings you can get for your cash. For example I stayed in a 4* hotel all inclusive in Kenya but if I had to eat the food for 14 days I would have got quite fed up. I wouldn't have been comfortable going to local restaurants to make up for it either.

Someone posted on a different forum a beautiful hotel in Mexico where your room literally led into the pool with a jacuzzi too, it was lovely and just a smidgen out of our price range for 7 nights. If I hadn't checked out the cost of a holiday there out of interest I would have thought somewhere like that was WAY out of our price range. I was pleasantly surprised - and now I think my expectations are increased.

When I'm looking through holiday brochures - everything starts blending into one for me and I can't tell the difference between one hotel to the other.

You're going at a cheap time of year, so your pound will stretch pretty far on the hotel.

So Kenya was 7 nights AI? Is that why you didn't get bored of the food? We did 14 nights half board in Maldives last year and that food felt very samey at the end of the holiday, so maybe 14 nights you should go for B+B in a hotel surrounded by good restaurants - maybe Cancun is the place as they are very water sporty hotels but the hotels are central to the town, so restaurant access is easy.

Having said that, we honeymooned in Cancun, 14 nights AI and our hotel had specialist restaurants you could eat in - so you could book the chinese restaurant, or the a la carte restaurant, or the french restaurant, plus it was partnered with another hotel, so you could eat in their restaurants too - food didn't feel as samey as the maldives HB did.

I guess the facilities at the hotel will make or break it for you.

We had a bit more cash back then so we did 2 weeks in Kenya - a few days at the beach with 7 day safari and another few days at the hotel. It was hard work, and wonderful!

To be honest I wonder how long 2 weeks at a beach hotel would feel like - that was the only holiday we've had, so perhaps 7 nights in one place would be enough?

Thank you both for your recommendations. It doesn't help I'm extremely indecisive and I'm quite happy to wait until it's November to go to actually book it - so I've got too much time to dither!

    Hi Maggie,

I think you actually have a lot of options! The majority of the 'good' AI caribbean hotels (mexico/cuba) will have a good variety of restaurants. The AI we did in Cuba last year had the main buffet and 5 specialised restaurants, as it was fairly quiet when we went they were happy for us to do one per week in each...that's a lot of different food.

I will admit right now that I am a MASSIVE Cuba fan (it was my most amazing holiday to date) and I recommend it. If you wanted pure luxury then you cant go wrong with the Paradisus Rio De Oro, I think you would only get a week for your budget but it's waiter service all the way (for the record we stayed in the Sol Rio De Luna Y Mares which shares the same beach).

I also know a few people who stayed at the Riu Tequila in Mexico and when I checked the dates for next June it was coming out at about £1200 per person for 2 weeks, you might be able to get it cheaper with haggling.

Just bear in mind that even Egypt wont be amazing weather in Nov, if you want sun you are going to have to travel a bit further!

Just to add another option...you might get a week in the Maldives for around the £1,000 mark, islands that may fall in to this would be Club Faru, Biyadhoo and possible Embudu.

Too many options and not enough time for me to tell you them all ;). Hope that helps anyway!
