Laptop taken over ! Security tool ????

We have a reasonably new laptop which this afternoon has had something strange happen.
A pop up appeared making out it was from Windows Defender saying that there was a threat and something needing updating - after clicking on this the laptop has appeared to have taken on a life of its own !!!
After running this pop up a screen came up saying it wanted $80 !!
The iffy security tool states that the laptop has 103 trojans but after running the Avast scanning (which got to 46%) the blue screen came up after which the system closed itself down.
The laptop then restarted itself and then just comes up with a 'security tool' screen which tells us everything that is infected and a big red alert message stating that the error is igfxsrvc.exe
This is constantly on the screen and we cannot minimize it or delete it !!
HELP !!! The laptop has now been switched off.
We have no technical knowledge so please bear that in mind.
Thank you in advance.

Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
If anything was found then do the exact same but run a FULL scan
reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin):idea:0 -
