Sorry to ask but need MATTRESS advice on La Romantica & other Brands

I know this has been covered on here so many times but there is so much to read through and it's getting confusing :o

At the moment we have an ortho mattress from m&s which is very good quality but recently is getting way too firm for us and causing us to wake up with sore back, hips, knees, shoulders and necks.

I was originally looking into La Romantica brand but I dont like the fact that you can't try out the bed before you buy and can only order online(as far as Im aware), I'd be very nervous about doing this. Does anyone know if any shops sell them in Scotland? I've also noticed a few bad reviews of them. Not sure if these are just faulty beds or just a rubbish brand?!

We love the feel of Latex as we are looking for a medium mattress I think, and a divan base to go with it. All of the latex ones we've tried come in at over £1000 which is too expensive.

We then tried a divan called iris from dreams that was comfortable but dreams doesn't state which type of memory foam this is and it only has 600 pocket springs which from what I've read isn't enough.

Can anyone recommed a mattress that may suit us?

or

Has anyone has a la romantica bed for a while that can review it?

Thank you

There are shops in Scotland who sell La Romantica beds. If you give La Romantica a call they will tell you which one is nearest to you. They are an extremely reliable make, but as with anything that is man made, there is always going to be the rare faulty one. But as long as any problems are sorted out, then there is nothing to worry about.
  • Thank you Tim, I will ring them and try them out then. I was told no shops sell them only online.

If I liked them then i would prob order online as I'd get a better deal.

I did try to call them a couple of weeks back and couldn't get anyone. Does anyone know of any shops in scotland that sell them?

    Hi Tinkerbelle1,

I'll be honest in that I haven't tried this mattress, but I have read recently on MSE a post about a customer that is less than satisfied... After only 18 months the mattress is useless, and was bought from a company called Bedlum Beds.

Maybe La Romantica have lowered their quality recently?

Anyway, you can be the judge of that. I can't post links yet and don't want to break the rules of the forum by duplicating posts but search for "La Romantica" and read the thread "Disappointed with my mattress, need a new firm super king size"

Apparently the La Romantica mattress bought by the OP only 18 months ago had gone soft already and was only sold with a warranty of 12 months... Not exactly a good investment of £600...

    Hope this helps.
  • jonjo42 - Thank you for that, I did read your post on another thread that i just noticed. I have asked the op on that specific thread if this was sorted out.

It seems when you read through some of the posts there are only a few makes recommended with La Romantica being that main one, Im just a bit concerned as it's very difficult to find reviews on them else where. I can't afford to waste money on something that may not be comfortable or may not last.

As I said on the other thread. Jonjo42 is just a trouble maker who has had a large number of posts removed for this reason.

What he fails to do is quote anything else that was said in the same thread.

And if you said that you have never sold mattresses that have developed faults, then you would be lying. It's how the problem is resolved that is important.
  • Our mattress isn't sinking in and doesnt have damaged springs so it's def the fact that its just way too firm for us now, knowing that would latex or mem foam be the better option for us?

Im wary of memory foam as a couple of friends have it and say its the worst bed they've slept on as it is rock solid and one of their beds has permanent indentations of where she sleeps, however i dont know if it's proper memory foam or that reflex stuff
  • Whilst I would love to, I can't genuinely comment on which bed type is best Tinkerbelle1 as I really don't know. (Tim seems to think I sell beds too as I dared question his opinion) but I'm actually retired now, previously an accountant.

I simply wanted to make you aware of the very inconsistent and 1 sided covert promotion of this La Romantica bed and it's specification - and of course the duped customers that have found it to be poor quality...

Tim or other bed salesman on here are better to advise on what's good for your requirements. All I can help with is a financial investigation at companies house of the seller company Bedlum Beds or the firm that make these La Romantica mattresses to ascertain genuine information as to the size and relative competency of the firms involved with this exclusive MSE "wonder bed".

(I have Googled La Romantica and it appears only 2 firms sell their goods - Bed Kingdom & Bedlum Beds).

If you want me to get the accounts of the sellers and manufacturer involved just let me know - happy to help in the areas I understand !!!

You did say that you were in the bed trade in posts that have now been deleted because they were causing trouble.

Yet again you get your facts 100% wrong. To start with I haven't promoted any brand. The only people who have made the link is yourself under your many aliases set up to cause trouble and disrupt the forums.

You now say that you know nothing about beds, but you think you are qualified to say that a bed is poor quality, even though there is only one post that even questions the quality, because of one faulty mattress.

As can anyone, as it's all on public records.

Well that just proves how bad you are at research. Do you really think that La Romantica could survive if they only had two outlets? (and you call yourself an accountant). There are actually loads on line, as well as a huge number of stores.

Now if you know nothing about beds, then what is the point you coming on a thread about beds, where people are asking questions about beds, and just making libelous comments?

If you have a personal problem with me, then I invite you to contact me directly.

The choice between memory foam and latex is down to personal preference, as both give fairly equal support, but have different feels. Memory foam is more slow reacting, but latex has more bounce, and is cooler, but is also far more expensive.

Beware of synthetic latex, and mattresses than only contain a very thin layer (sometimes even just in zones). You really want a full 2" deep layer right over the sleeping surface.

Your friends experience with memory foam could just be due to a poor design mattress. There are 1000's on the market, and many are poorly designed. What type do they have?
