Thanks BodyShopBabe and Crazy Jamie, I was hesitant to argue about the 50% treatment costs because I had no idea if this was normal. Now I feel in a better position to question this and hold out for the full amount needed for treatment.
When I know anything else about the Counsel's opinion, etc will let you know. You both agree that this should not be necessary for this claim, so I would would love to know why my solicitor was so keen to go ahead with it. Even if she is quite inexperienced I have been dealing with her for 3 years, so not a complete novice.

Well, that's not exactly what I said. Generally speaking Counsel's opinion shouldn't be needed in a case of this value, but there is possible justification here. The quickest way of finding out why your solicitor wants Counsel's opinion on this is just to ask her.

    Sorry! Crazy Jamie.
It was my suggestion to get Counsel's opinion and she agreed without hesitation.
I was following the advice of another response to my post on the first page. Until then I had never heard of this.
I an glad you think "there is possible justification here".

Well the first suggestion for obtaining Counsel's opinion coming from the client is a little unorthodox, but then again I expect most clients don't have threads on MSE where it is suggested to them ;)

Irrespective of the normal process I wouldn't worry about obtaining Counsel's opinion in this case. Ultimately the cost will likely be recovered from the other side anyway, and even in aiding settlement it could be useful. Fingers crossed it will lead to a quicker resolution for you.

Quite right about MSE, I have found it so helpful on a number of occasions.
Gosh, I didn't realize It was unorthodox:eek: to ask for Counsel's opinion.

It's not necessarily unorthodox - but it can be expensive! (Though that's not your problem)
