Buses to/from wedding reception

It's not like anyone will be drinking at the ceremony, is it? So I don't see why they can't drive to the reception.
But - as has been mentioned, if it is "expected" amongst your wedding party, then maybe you should canvas
opinion on not providing transport, and see if anyone throws a hissy fit???Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Yey!! YIPPEE!!0 -
I was at a wedding a couple of weeks ago where there was a lovely old London bus to transport guests from the church to the reception, and it was used by 6 people. It was so sad I was just glad that the couple had already gone off in their car and didn't see how little use it go. And that was with pre-warning all the guests that transport would be provided... The problem is that unless you take guests TO the Church/ceremony as well, then they will have to leave their cars and come back for them later and most people won't do that. I personally, wouldn't bother...0

I'm not sorting any transport!
The church and the venue are very close to metrolink stations so I don't see the point, I even wanted to get the metrolink but everyone moaned at me!:heart2: 'Tied the Knot' Saturday 9th October 2010 :heart2::blushing: Member of Diet Club October 2010 Brides and Grooms :blushing:Starting Weight: 14 stone 10.8lbsCurrent Weight: 13 stone 2lbsTotal loss: 21.8lbs :j0 -

That would be my idea of cool!
My monster in law moaned that we were not putting on a car to collect them - they live abotut 50 miles from the venue - unfortunately they are coming the day before the wedding! No one else has mentioned it!
When I was a teenager I went to a wedding where transport was provided. There were young children and old people on it (sounds harsh but her great grandad was 93), the little onces became restless at about 8;30, the old ones at 9 but the bus wasn't coming until 12:15! The groom rang the coach company and had the coach come early - meant we had to go home at 9:30 or spend a fortune on taxi's! My dad wished he had driven - the beer was bad anyway!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
The only wedding I've been to where transport was laid on was in Ireland. The reception was in a hotel where, conveniently, most of the groom's guests were staying. The coach picked us up from the hotel, took us to the church, and then took us back to the hotel after the ceremony. It worked very well.
We expected our guests walk from the church to the reception as it was only about a quarter of a mile. Virtually all of them did.0 -
I'm putting one on as the evening is in a different place to the day and the venue.
I got a quote from heals travel I thinl they're called that, which was £75 per hour, not sure if they're national though0 -
My wedding reception is in Glasgow, and I'm hiring three buses for my family - one from Ayrshire, another from my hometown, and one for OH's family from Edinburgh.
Costs we've been quoted have been hugely varied - one company from Edinburgh quoted me £895 for a return journey for a 33 seat coach. Another was £400 for same journey. The one from Ayr is about £195 for a 33 seater, so I think cost also depends on where the coach hire place is based!
Maybe it is just a regional thing, but it's expected that I will organise coaches for people to come - so that they can have a drink, and dont need to worry about getting home/staying over.
My advice would be to contact as many places as possible really, and you'll find the best deal for you!0 -
I think transport is a personal thing some do it some dont...Im not sure whats expected by guests but we never laid on transport...people drove to the church then to the reception...we had 56 at that...there was a break after the reception...I assume people went home and changed they then arranged to get to our evening reception at another venue..there wer 250 at the evening reception ...We never provided any form of transport but there was a large free car park at the evening reception and plenty of parking in the surrounding area of both the church and main reception area...no one questioned transport and it clearly didnt put people off.
Sometimes I think the more you organise something for people the more they then expect...I think its perfectly reasonable if you are invited to a wedding to find your own way between venues..as a guest if you dont want to do this or you feel the distances between venues will be awkward(you will know this when you receive your invite)...then thats the point you politely declinee the invite, not ask what transport is put on by the bride and groom!frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

We provided transport from the ceremony to the reception venue - but as we live, married & partied in Blackpool we hired a vintage tram for the trip. Our invites all had a slip inside saying "please leave your car at the reception venue and make your own way to the ceremony as trnasport will be provided back to the reception". Everyone was very surprised & pleased when they were told, and they all loved it - and the photographer got some fab shots!0
