Is my heated windscreen broken?

I know it sounds stupid, but i'm just not sure.
Should it operate in a similar way to a heated rear window? Or is it only for melting ice?
I tried steaming up the inside with a kettle, but the heated windscreen hadn't cleared after several minutes (the rear starts clearing within seconds)
I was going to check the fuse, however the heated windscreen/rear window/mirrors are all operated by one button on the dash. Neither the ford manual or the haynes specifies which fuse does the windscreen (only the rear and mirrors), so I can only assume it must be the same as the rear and mirrors.

what car? in my experience with ford heated windscreens, there was always a separate button for the heated front windscreen.0

Are you sure they all operate from one button? My mondeo has one for front and another for the back and yes the front should work just like the back.0

Do you know what, you are right... there is a second button for windscreen... woah, the wording of the manual really caught me out there. Thanks I will give it a go...0
