As a warning, you should be using a credit card to buy through PayPal (if you have one that is). This way, you will get additional protection via the credit card company in the event of a fraudulent claim. If you pay by bank funds or debit card, you don't get this protection.

As expected, the transaction failed. Why does it have to be so difficult to do such a simple thing?

I have just been advised to do this. Do you think it will work to get an instant payment made?

    1. Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.co.uk

    2. Click the 'Send Money' tab.

    3. Choose 'Pay Anyone' or 'Pay for eBay items'.

    A. If you chose 'Pay Anyone', complete these fields:

    · Recipient's Email Address or Phone

    · Amount

    · Currency

    · Category of Purchase

    · Email Subject and Note fields are optional

    B. If you chose 'Pay for eBay items', click 'Pay' in the Action
    column.

    4. Click 'Continue'.

    5. Review the details of the payment, including the 'Source of
Funds'. If the payment that you are sending exceeds the amount of funds
in your PayPal account, you can click the 'More Funding Options' link to
change the source of funds for that payment.

    6. Click 'Send Money' or 'Pay' to complete the payment. To edit the
information, click 'Edit'. Note: If you edit your payment details, the
funding source will return to the default method of payment.

*The recipient will receive an email announcing the payment. The email
contains a link. By clicking on the link, the recipient can log into
PayPal or sign up for a new account. If the recipient does not have an
account, they will be required to open an account to receive the
    payment.

Note: To provide the most secure service as possible, you may be asked
to complete a Security Challenge. Simply type the characters you see in
the image into the blank field, without spaces.

That should work. You need to make sure that you do not send an echeque and that your debit card (not your bank account) is selected as the source of the funds.

Yes, I did it. I actually made a payment with my debit card. It wouldn't let me pay with my credit card for some reason but I think that has something to do with the seller not accepting credit cards.

I just hope the seller holds on to the camera for me as I know they don't like time wasters or non payers.

Thanks for all your help. Much appreciated.

It would be very easy to upset the direct debit link between paypal and your current account. If you log in to your halifax current account and look at direct-debits you should see the paypal one. However if by any chance you have deleted it, the link is broken.

Always use a credit card with paypal in case their resolution process doesn't go according to plan :)

I am now informed they do not take credit card payments upon ringing them. They have no record of me paying and see the transaction as Cancelled. I thought because I paid by debit/Vish through paypal it would be ok.

He advised me to pay through a bank transfer but I have been there before.

I am giving up as I have no idea how to get funds from my bank to them.
