Hello do not know where the best place to post this so any help will be greatly appreciated.
Just got off the phone to my nan who is 60+ and she has informed me that a company i think she said pound saver has taken a few amounts out of her bank account amounting to a couple of hundred pounds, as she is 60+ she doesnt know how to use the internet and the only online shopping she does is for me or my mum and it always just amazon or very trusted craft sites. She is absolutely mortified as she doesnt have a large income it is merely just Dla and state pension. I need help on finding out if theres anything she can do and if theres any way she can get her money back?

Did she use the internet?
Did she buy anything?...i think she said pound saver...
Then isn't it a simple case of asking them for the money back?0 -
It is pound saver i read some stuff that apparently its linked to these adverts on the tv the "buy now limited stock", i was meaning no she doesnt use a computer at all she gives me the details to buy stuff off amazon which is obviously a very reputable site. and its very rarely i use her card for amazon its normally mine i use i found this http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/08001077333it might not be much, but its better than a kick in the teeth:rotfl:

Ah... I see.
So nothing to do with the internet.
She phoned the TV shopping channel and gave them her card number.0 -
Looks like its one of those 'opt out' things that its difficult to 'opt out' of when you buy from teleshopping channels. Reminds me of the vista print extra charges, where you automatically sign up to it, unless you know where to look on the website to cancel it. On the phone its even more difficult, as the operator may just click the 'yes please' button and you would be none the wiser!
Is pound saver the same company as the shopping channel, or has the shopping channel 'introduced' or sold on your nans details?
Ive seen lots of comments on the 'who calls me' site, but can't find anything about if someone has sucessfully got a refund. I would suggest you contact trading standards, im sure they will have heard of them, and may be able to help.
One more suggestion is for your nana to contact the bank and say they are unauthorised debits, they may beable to help?0 -
thanks for your replys we think they have passed them on to a third party. shes got in touch with the bank and they passed it to the fraud department, dont know what will come of it thoughit might not be much, but its better than a kick in the teeth:rotfl:

I hope the bank can help, or at least point you in the right direction, looking at how these guys operate, im sure which ever back your nana is with, they will already have had experience with customers questioning payments.
Please let us know how your nan gets on, as it might be invaluable help for others in the same situation, who find the thread via a search. Fingers crossed for you!:beer:0 -
My mother has just told me she has recently noticed similar payments on her bank statements to JML after buying an item and paying by cheque !!!
she's pretty wary of giving out her card details and swears she never gave them any of her bank/card details so the only thing they could have got her details from are the cheque she sent for payment !
now i'm no expert but i thought the whole point of a cheque was that it was a secure one off payment, not a complement slip with printed details of where to access your cash and a copy of your signature !! is it even possible to set up a payment without the last 3 numbers on the back of a card or a signed document ?
she has phoned JML and a nice woman is looking into it for her - a nice woman who wanted to be sent proof before she would believe that my mother has been in hospital for the past few months, and therefore has valid reason for not reading the letter explaining she has a certain amount of time to opt out of the vouchers scheme ! the vouchers scheme she never wanted to be in ?
looking at the info on whocallsme i'm not holding out much hope but we will see !0 -
~They wouldnt have got the details from a cheque.
~When paying by card they need a lot, lot more information than what is printed on a chequei.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
You'd be better starting a new thread than digging up a 2 year old one......
Step one - What type of "payments" are these to JML? Direct Debits? Standing Order? Debit Card? Credit Card?
It is possible technically possible to set up a DD off the information thats printed on a cheque but would be illegal to do so without the account holders permission. Arguable a standing order could be too but that would be more difficult and you'd have almost certainly received a letter about it but would be illegal full stop as no permission can be given for this unless its by you to your bank.
If it is a DD payment then your mum can tell her bank the DD was not authorised and they will immediately cancel the DD and refund all payments. She will still need to deal with JML who will undoubtedly say that she did authorise them some how.0
