Pond life.

\hi all, I've just cleaned out a load of leaves and some wed fro my small pond.
I noticed on the underside of many of the lily pads that htere are jeely like eggs about 1cm long with little black doys inside.
Are these harmful when hatched?
I dont know what they are but at a guess I'd say they might be the eggs of the long pointed shell water snail I seem to have.
I think I remember reading that theses are bad in a pond. Can anyone advise please?

I think you could be right & they're probably watersnail eggs as it seems a bit late for anything else. I've got a few of those watersnails in my pond. I didn't put them in deliberately, there must have been a few eggs on one of the plants I bought. They don't seem to do any harm though. We emptied the pond out last month to reline as we'd got a bad leak and we seemed to have a pretty diverse range of creatures so I just put the few snails back in.

Hi yes they are water snail eggs and you should really scrape most of them off as each gel thing contains dozens of eggs and if they all hatch you will be over run with them next year. They are not bad but you can have too many!!
