I paid all my council tax off at the beggining of the year, cause I has so much trouble with them last year. Last wednesday they sent the bailiffs around for non payment. I was so happy to show my statement to the bailiffs, they left without any words..... But it should never have happened.0

It would be interesting if you were to send the council a bill for the visit from the bailiffs! The bailiffs are quick enough to put their charges on for " a home visit".I am a debt counsellor working in the voluntary sector - we don't charge our clients for the work we do!0 -
i've had heaps of problems with the council too (who hasnt?). my ex and i had been late with one payment and just plain couldnt pay so they added it over the remaining months of that year, fair enough. then my partner left so i got the council tax changed into my name, no money off as he'd been a student (25% discount) then it was onto a single person (also 25%). over a year later i gets a court summons for them saying i'm due them money
i went down to see them to find out what was going on, turns out when they changed it to just my name they hadn't added on the extra payment  i should have been sent a letter previously but there had been problems with their mailing system  so a year and a half after my parter had left i was paying the arrears on that account. despite it being their mistake there was never an apology or offer of money off or anything. total barstewards.
on top of that they are now changing the rubbish system up here, because homes are getting a recycling box, thereby meaning they are putting less in the wheely bins they are only collecting it once a fortnight. now it doesn't make any difference to me but how on earth are a family of four supposed to cope with that kind of collection? yet there is no reduction in the tax bill...0 -
We were away for two weeks and came back to a letter saying that we were in arrears with our council tax and therefore had lost the RIGHT? to pay monthly. The best thing was that we had paid BEFORE we went away!I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I've just had a revised bill from my council saying that £106.00 has been "written off"! I have no idea why, we are not in arrears and have never missed a payment!
Needless to say I shall be keeping the letter as I have a feeling that this will come back to bite me on the bum sooner or later!!!!!!!!

It's Rochdale council, have never really had any problems with them to be fair but there's always a first time!**Trying my best to be the best that I can**

Hi there,
I had the EXACT same thing!!
I pay my council tax every month and have NEVER missed. Then half way through the month the council sent me a horrible letter saying i ahd to pay up in full in seven days or they'd take me to court!!!!!!
I was really upset and had proof on my bank statement that i'd already paid. I phoned them and they said i hadnt paid and accused me of lying! The ONE person that deals with council tax payments at my council was away on Holdiay, i had to wait four days till he could check. then when i called back i had to call every hour, because he was 'busy'.... then all of a sudden they 'found' my payment!!
It takes the mickey - i got no apology or anything!!
Good luck with yours! :beer:Joined September 2006: £18800.00 in debt:eek:

Is it that councils dont care anymore or that people have been putting the council payments off over the last decade so that the council has to be stronger in it's words and actions to force people to pay up?0

HATE IT !!!
Why cant we all simply stop paying and they will have to sort the mess out !! (mind you said that with tongue in cheek after not paying for 2 years .... oops !)
Actually, you don't pay £30 per week to have your bin emptied. You pay £30 per week to help finance the Police, Fire Service, and things like Schools, Roads, etc etc etc.
This b*llsh*t perception that Council Tax is simply to pay to have your bins emptied really p*sses me off.........Get your facts straight before posting b*ll*cks. You will actually find it works out at somewhere between £1.75 and £3.50 of your council tax goes to clearing your bin (per week).WARNING!Alcohol can make you think you are more interesting and attractive than you actually are.....0
