Portable DVD Player To TV Problem.

Hi there.

I purchased a 7" Portable DVD player a few weeks back. In the book it says you can use it to connect to a TV and watch DVD on a TV.

So got the AV out cable it says to in the book. I plug it into the DVD player and then the 2 jacks into the same colour bits on the TV. I turn on the DVD player, Check all the channels on the TV and cant find the picture and sound from the DVD anywhere.

It doesnt say in the DVD instruction booklet anything else other than Connect the lead to the DVD player then TV and then thats it.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

You need to select the AV input on the TV, not go through the channels.

Consult your TV instruction booklet for how to do this. The coloured jacks usually have a designation - AV3, AV4, depending on how many SCARTS are on the TV - these are usually AV1 and AV2.

I can't find a picture anywhere, but there's a specific symbol for selecting the AV inputs - a rectangle with arrow pointing to the centre of the rectangle. Look for this on the TV remote.

You will need to select the correct inputs on the TV (not the channel)

No luck with a google image search for the generic symbols - I may have to photograph my remotes myself and upload them.......

    Thankyou for your replies.

I only have one set of the Red, White and Yellow holes on my TV to put the Jacks so I know I atleast have them in the right place. lol

So am I right in thinking that I'll just need to find this button on my remote and press it so that it starts to take the signal from the DVD player?

    Thanks

Yes. Or the equivalent button on the TV.

What's the make and model of TV?

It has a DVD player built in. Its just that my Sister is going away with a todler and will need the dvd player (A week without Peppa Pig wouldnt be a good idea for her) if I can find out the button she will need to press then I'm guessing it will be a similar one (As you said) on most remotes?

Do you have an instruction manual for the TV?
Is there a section detailing the buttons on the remote?

Most instruction manuals have a picture of the remote with an explanation of what they do.

    Look for

    AV
    External Input or 'Ext'
    TV/AV

    or similar.

Look for the section of the manual that deals with the coloured sockets that you plugged the DVD into, and cross-reference these to the remote, and possibly to the controls on the TV.

The symbol or legend will vary by manufacturer, so if you use the portable with other sets, you may need to hunt, but if the symbol I referred to isn't present, the input will usually be referred to with one of the list above
