in Credit cards
Ive recently applied and been accepted for a new MBNA CC with a £6k limit. My intention was to transfer some of my other CC balances to a point so to pay a lower APR etc and try and get them clear sooner when i filled out the application i had to state my other CC balances etc .
Much to my horror and surprise ive now found that they have transfered the balances off two of my three cards completely and this week ive got the the two DD comin out my bank for these two ther card paymentsive contacted both CC companies and the balances have been transfered leaving me £13 on Halifax and about the same on my BC . Surely they cant do this without my authority As i cant remember anywhere in the application statmg that they would automatically do this I havent contacted them as yet but althou i was goin to transfer some money i would have liked to have a bit more "input"
As i now will in credit when the DD goes out with Halifax and BC who say i will have to phone back and get it refunded as its to late to stop even thou they arent coming out till thursday !!!

This is normal MBNA practice. They will always transfer the most they can - ie the two largest balances if posible. They cant change the amount without your authority though. It is from memory, on the application, but is buried in the small print.
Unfortunately, Halifax and BC are correct in that they cannot stop the DD at short notice - most companies require 7 working days at least. However, when these are paid, you can call them and ask them to complete a balance refund (for which there should be no fee).
Unfortunately, MBNA have done nothing wrong, you put the balances on the app form, abd they transferred them as requested.
Although unrelated to you, it does happen the other way round as well, where people DONT pay expecting to be accepted for a certain credit limit, and either their app is rejected or the credit limit is insufficient. It does say thouogh to continue payments until the transfer is completed. No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

How much are the DDs for? Can't you just spend the positive balance on the cards?0
