....well reading the reviews about cheap and splintered wood etc has put me off so I'm going to make my own for our little spare room. Problem is, I can't find anywhere that sells the canvas covers separately.
B&Q has them on show online but they can't be bought online and no store has them in stock.
Any ideas? And no, sewing is NOT one of my skills, I'm much more of a wood and plasterboard kinda gal.
:D

Silly question, but do you have a ships chandlers anywhere near you? You could use some lengths of sail cloth and cut them to size."I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0

I brought one of them from Argos it was fine.0

I've got the wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside drawers, and they're fine. They're a little flimsy, so you don't want to put anything too heavy on them, but they look good in the room they're in. You could buy them, and then reinforce the wood at the joins which would help. Or else if you really want to make your own, then it may be cheaper and easier to buy them and just use the canvas, and recycle the wood.0

If you don't like sewing, how about covering with hardboard/thin MDF instead?
Or just use a staple gun to secure the canvas to the frame?
Using sailcloth is a good idea - if you put the word around you might find someone with old sails they no longer require.0 -
No Norma, not as far as I know anyway. Don't really want to have to make the cover as well tbh.
Adaline...the covers in B&Q (that I can't actually buy, lol...are reduced from £15 to £11, even at full price, the whole thing would only cost me £25 tops by making it myself. The wood is pennies a meter at our builder supply merchant.
Doesn't make sense to buy the whole thing and discard the wood.Herman - MP for all!0 -
we bought wardrobe and the drawer set for my daughter couple of years back, they lasted couple of months till the feel apart, they now sit in my attic, was thinking of repairing them but cant find the instructions,buzzyy0

Just print off the picture from the Argos website and copy the way the wood is laid out.
You can easily get new wood struts or slats and it would be much sturdier than the original Argos stuff.Herman - MP for all!0 -

I did Spendless, a search for replacement canvas covers just brought up the original canvas wardrobes. :undecidedHerman - MP for all!0

Does it have to be a canvas wardrobe? Why don't you look for something on ebay then sand it down and paint it? It amazes me the way that people get old, dark stained furniture then paint it with farrow and ball or laura ashley paint and then charge a couple of hundred for a piece of furniture (yes I know it requires work). Some of the stuff looks lovely.0
