Hip inspectors unemployed?

Now that the HIPS have been abolished I was just wondering what's happened to all the HIP Inspectors? I know they paid a lot of money to train as an inspector, so I wonder what they're doing now?

Anyone know of one?:money:

Some of them are apparently (& confusingly) offering themselves as a provider of home "surveys" - this was covered in a previous thread.

Hence prospective buyers may want to check whether their "surveyor" is an RICS member

HIPs were a useless waste of time, but I wouldn't gloat and post grinning smilies about anyone becoming unemployed. They were only doing what the government told them would earn a decent living. It would be very bad taste to laugh at that.
    Been away for a while.
  • I have a couple of friends who retrained as HIP providers. They can still do the Energy Certificates but it doesn't provide enough income to keep them in full time employment so they have had to diversify and get other jobs.

One has gone full time doing something else, another has gone self employed and still does the odd Energy Certificate.

But like Running Horse said, these people were only providing a necessary service, they didn't make bucket loads of cash infact the training course cost a pretty packet. and it was a legal requirement, so if they didn't charge you, someone else would have!

If the new Government decide to abolilsh all the current Health & Safety legislations, there will also be lots of H&S people looking for alternatively employment.
  • Nothng has really changed because hardly anyone had a home condition report anyway and the people who trained as energy inspectors have the same amount of work as they had before because EPCs are still compulsory for sales.

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.
