Had a little look through my old emails...this is who we booked with - Transun. THey operate out of Davvi Arctic Lodge. The link is the tour we took with them: http://www.transun.co.uk/arctic/northern_lights
Reindeer camp was awesome, snow mobiles were cool, husky sledding was the highlight (aside from the lights). There are other options...I wouldnt do the ice fishing or Igloo night - a few others in the group did these...they said the ice fishing was boring and the igloo blimmin cold!
I dont think anywhere is cheap in the lapland - these tours are from £800. Flights included and all inclusive - except for alcohol, but there is a servo down the road from the hotel.Kim Kiminey, Kim Kiminey, Kim Kim Cheroo, I does what I like and I like what I do!0 -

Yes but how often and how reliably?0 -

The northern lights can sometimes be seen in the highlands so that would cut down on traveling costs.0

do check about transun - they had a terrible rep last year and as for not getting to lapland cheaply, it can be done, we did it for £160 each for a week with flights and cabin so there are deals to be had if you are willing to go in school hols0 -

We found Transun to be brilliant (see my first post, we didn't know they had a bad rep until after we had booked)...just don't go expecting 5-star services from them.
Wish we'd done it as cheaply as Poe.tuesday though...I guess if you have the flexibility to go last minute that would be the way to do it. The Lapland was an amazing experienceKim Kiminey, Kim Kiminey, Kim Kim Cheroo, I does what I like and I like what I do!0 -
You could always go on an excursion. I've had this page - I can't post links being a new user, astrospace.co.uk/NLights.html - saved in my favourites for a few months now and can't wait to save up the money to go. Under the dates if you click on the travel.reader link that usually brings up the best results. From the airport you choose you travel to where the northern lights are happening for a set amount of time and return the same night - great if you want a cheap and cheerful night without having to stay over somewhere else, although there's always the risk of not seeing much due to weather conditions, time you fly, etc. Worth a look though0

Hi,
Tromso is a really good option - but like mentioned earlier, April might be a little late as the nights are getting shorter (although the skiing is amazing then! - Easter is my favourite time in TRomso!)
It is however still "northern ligths season" then, so if it is early April you should be ok.
The good thing about Tromso is that you can get direct flights with budget airliner Norwegian.no from London Gatwick - You can get one way tickets for £30!
and in Tromso you can book a self catering cabin just outside town, which often turns out quite cheap if you're a group travelling together. It also saves loads on the drinking/eating budget, which normally is the big wallet-emptier in Norway.
HEre is a good guide for Tromso on the cheap: iglobetrotter.com/norway/tromso/tromso-on-a-shoestring
(sorry - im not allowed to post links yet apparently)
Good luck!!0
