I need some help please!

I had to reformat my hard drive because everything had slowed down. Anyway I managed to sort it all out. I am using XP Professional with SP2 and all patched up.

However when trying to play DVD's with WMP 10 it says that there are not enough decoders?! What does this mean?

Can anyone help me sort it out so I can watch DVD's again?

Also does anyone know of any free and legal software I can use to convert files to mp4 please? It is for a friends psp.

there is no dvd decoder installed with a fresh windows install, did you get a cd/dvd with movie playing software with your pc originally? if so you will need to install this to be able to watch dvds in wmp.
otherwise it is hunt the net for a free one, but most of these seem to have some ads or other nasties imbedded from what i have seen.

Yes I did originally get some movie playing software but i can not remember which one it was.

Do you know of any decoders that I can buy?

that plugin costs money.

You probably had a powerdvd or cyberlink cd when you bought your computer or dvd rom, you will just need to install the codecs from there.

Yes I think it was powerdvd software. I wonder why you can not play DVD's on the computer on WMP 10 just out of the box?

Whats with all the codecs?
