I grew up on Crete, and people who do that are pricing locals out of the market. I don't want to start an argument, but it really hurts to see people developing the home you love for their own profit, then running back to the UK with the cash without putting anything back into the community. To me it seems to be just another form of colonialist looting. I'm not having a go OP, so please don't be offended. I just really wish that people would THINK what they are doing to a local area before they buy up cheap properties to develop and sell on to tourists with twice the buying power of the local community, who then leave the property standing empty for most of the year- It isn't a particularlt ethical way to get rich IMO.*stands well back*Official Debt Free Wannabe Nerd Club member 095! You are probably right. Although I lived in Crete for a few years & most of the money i saw was being made be canny locals.
My friend and I still run a website for tourists to book direct with Greek owners (at no profit to me - no wonder i am always on this board!!!)so I am not trying to ruin the community, honest!
I do have a little land down South & wouldnt mind selling a couple of metres for that kind of money though.ah,well....another happy bug.........sorry,blogger embracing the simple life0 -

Just could not agree more. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

They were really bl**dy annoying though!
Also, maybe slightly off topic but hey I'll say it anyway.......why is it you hear hordes of Daily Mail readers moaning about people coming over here and working in Great Britain and taking up "our housing" yet it's positively encouraged (probably in the Daily Mail?) to buy holiday homes abroad?
Double standards methinks.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
