Car repair warranty

I took my renault in to a main dealer for repair in April '09 which of course I paid for. The same problem occured 9 months later in Jan '10 which was covered by warranty. Unfortunately the same problem has occured again recently but I was told that it wasn't warranted as it was more than a year from the original problem. Though only 8 months from the second. Now I thought if an item was repaired on a car that you could expect the item to last at least a year or it would be replaced free of charge. I was told that was not the case. It would be free as many times as needed within the first year, but chargeable after. Could someone please tell what is correct by law and if I refuse to pay are they entitled to keep my car until I do?
Thank you

The garage are right.0

There is no requirement to offer warranties on anything, ever, so in regards to that, that garage are right. You may however uave statutory rights but perhaps tell us what the fault is first....Back by no demand whatsoever.0

Hi Hudsonj
The fault was the fuel pressure sensor stopped working 04.09. It failed again 01.10. I tried other garages but only the main dealer could fix this. They have told me that there is a common problem with these sensors. How can it be right for them to keep charging me for faulty sensors? What happens if it fails again in another 8 months, then again and again. That can only encourage bad practice. I must have some rights here!0 -
Is there any more advise on this or do I just like it or lump it.

I thinks it is unfortuante that this occurs, and marts is right that 'he' should not continue to pay for smething that is clearly conmtinuously faulty, and this is a clear, imo, reliability issue with this item.
I know with other items that are repaired under guarantee, the guarantee runs for another period, but in the case of cars, I think the warranty period is fixed, I am afraid it is outside this now.
Though Freddie would state they should at least come to some solution0
