Quick rant about insurance quote!

A few weeks ago we got the renewal for our insurance, it was nearly twice as much as the previous year, despite nothing changing.
The hubby has 9 years no claims discount and I am a named driver on the policy, driving for 6.5 years always on his policy.
This year because of the high quote of £853 with the AA, we went to moneysupermarket and decided on a quote from Kwikfit insurers. There were cheaper ones, but the Kwikfit one offered everything we want for just £381; legal, personal, breakdown, windscreen and courtesy car, as well as protected no claims.
Because moneysupermarket doesn't ask all questions I decided to finish off by phoning them, the reason I did this is because two years ago the hubby was knocked off his bike, it was a non-fault accident and our bike insurers were able to claim everything back from the driver at fault (who admitted liability at the scene).
Anyway, I knew that ideally the insurance company would need to know this, otherwise they could claim we were withholding details from them, despite this being a non-fault accident on his bike insurance.
So I phoned them, and sure enough it added £36 to the total quote, so not too bad, but it just winds me (and the hubby) up that he is being penalised for something that was completely not his fault, that didn't involve the insurers being out of pocket etc etc.
The way the hubby sees it, his no claims on his car isn't allowed to be used for his bike insurance, so why should a non-fault claim be allowed to penalise him on his car insurance??
Besides for that, in the end I told the silly woman at Kwikfit, that I wished I had completed the quote online as I was annoyed that she tried to sell me loads of additional extras!!!

I suspect if you queried whether they should have added the non fault bike accident on and charged extra, Kwik-Fit would have a re-think. You will find with most companies, that this sort of thing is not written down in black & white in the guides they have, so they would have made this decision at the point of your call. If they subsequently checked with the actual underwriting team, they might get a different decision.
It is worth a try, even if it is only £36.The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
I did actually query it at the time, and she went away to discuss it with her manager. When she came back, she said the manager said that a claim of any kind would have to be submitted to the insurance company, otherwise any subsequent claims could be deemed null and void because of witholding information!
I don't suppose it would be too bad if it worked both ways though, he only has 5 years no claims on the bike!!Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs
