  • I've been to the Museum Depot before but not on a "Family Weekend" as such. It's pretty good with many old buses and tube carriages to explore. The Depot is basically a store for all the stuff that doesn't fit in the Covent Garden museum (which is currently being refurbished). They also have loads of old signs, machines etc on display. If your son/daughter is quite interested in trains/buses etc. then it should be worthwhile, otherwise maybe better to visit the Covent Garden museum when it re-opens as that is a lot more interactive and aimed at kids.

lamnicholas - Thanks for the info. It does say on the wbsite that the normal depot visit is not suitable for kids whereas I presume this is since it is termed Family Weekend.skintas - Depot Family Weekend - Sat 21 and Sun 22 Oct 2006 11:00 -17:00It did say on the website that tickets are valid over the 2 days. We have already been to the RAF musuem. Thanks.

i've been to one of their family weekends before - they usually have lots of men showing off their mini train sets, and someone comes with a mini train to ride on too for a small extra charge [you can tell from the technical terms that i'm really into trains :D ]. other than that, as the other poster said, it really is just a store, with lots and lots to look at, but not really displayed iykwim. although, if your child is into underground ernie, they'll be in delighted to point at all the signs and sing the theme tune!

also, there isn't a cafe, but someone brings a burger van and some plastic chairs.....and from memory the loos weren't great. i thought it was interesting, but would not return - think the transport museum far far better, but the OH was enthralled.

also seems obligatory to have a comedy moustache or sideburns at these sorts of things.

how about kew bridge steam museum instead?

I'm afraid we don't have any of the above! :)

I think we will give this a miss and wait for the one in Covent Garden to reopen next year (I think). Went there years ago with some kids and they loved it.

    Thanks.
